Angels rock Yankees with trio of 3-run homers (AP)

Los Angeles Angels' Vladimir Guerrero, right, is greeted by Chone Figgins as he approaches home plate after hitting a three-run home run against the New York Yankees during the sixth inning of a baseball game Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Yankee Stadium in New York. The Angels won 12-6.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia knew his team was due to break out. The stats were on his side. Torii Hunter had a more primal explanation for Los Angeles' recent surge. Hunter, Vladimir Guerrero and Juan Rivera each hit a three-run homer, and the Angels added to their East Coast romp with a 12-6 win over the New York Yankees on Thursday night.

Yanks relieved Manny changing leagues

Manny Ramirez has enjoyed a long, successful history against the Yankees. In 200 games against New York -- the most he's played against any team -- Ramirez has a .321 batting average, with 55 homers and 163 RBIs. So the Yankees are somewhat relieved they won't face him as often after the outfielder was traded to the Dodgers on Thursday.

Minor move caps Yanks’ July spree

One of baseball's busier teams leading up to Thursday's non-waiver Trade Deadline, the Yankees allowed business to pass relatively quietly as 4 p.m. ET approached, completing a small deal with the Nationals. New York dealt shortstop Alberto Gonzalez to Washington for Minor League righty Jhonny Nunez.

Orioles’ Cabrera, Yankees’ Ramirez suspended (AP)

Baltimore's Daniel Cabrera and New York's Edwar Ramirez were suspended and fined by the league for intentionally throwing at batters during a series between the teams earlier this week. Cabrera was suspended six games and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing a pitch at Alex Rodriguez's head in the bottom of the eighth inning on Tuesday night.

The Red Sox exported a distraction while picking up a bat in Bay, the Dodgers injected much-needed offense with Ramirez and the Pirates added youth.

Mets make no deal — for now

The Mets' needs persist -- a corner outfielder, a setup relief pitcher and a genuine middle reliever -- but GM Omar Minaya won't suspend his contact with other clubs just because the Trade Deadline has passed.
