Halladay won his fourth straight start, giving him four wins over the New York Yankees this year, and Scott Rolen homered for the Toronto Blue Jays in their 6-2 victory Sunday. The 2003 AL Cy Young Award winner, Halladay improved to 4-1 with a 2.50 ERA in five starts against the Yankees this season.

The Yankees set out for Detroit on Labor Day to begin a stretch that will see them play 10 games in 10 days, and ultimately decide their playoff fate.

Nelson Figueroa's recent itinerary with the New York Mets included a quick trip to New Orleans to retrieve personal possessions before Hurricane Gustav strikes the Gulf Coast. Figueroa pitched for the New Orleans Zephyrs, the Mets' Triple-A affiliate, before being called up by New York on Wednesday -- about the time it became apparent Gustav was going to strike the region.

The Mets are in the midst of one of their toughest stretches of opponents of the season, and it's not about to get any easier, as they travel to Milwaukee to face the Brewers. If the season ended Monday, the two teams would face each other in the National League Division Series.

Carlos Beltran, Nick Evans and David Wright all homered and Pedro Martinez went six innings, not allowing a run after a two-run first in a 6-2 victory over the Marlins on Sunday. Wright was 3-for-5.

A four-run cushion was sufficient Sunday for the New York Mets. Now they'll try to hang onto a lead in September. The Mets' battered bullpen came through with three shutout innings to close out a 6-2 victory over the Florida Marlins, preserving New York's one-game lead over Philadelphia in the NL East.

With Major League rosters expanding to 40 players on Monday, the Yankees expect to have reinforcements when they report to Comerica Park.

On Tuesday, the Mets will promote the most successful lefty currently in their farm system, Jonathon Niese, to make his Major League debut in Milwaukee. Niese is among a handful of players to receive a callup with the big league rosters expanding in September.

If Robinson Cano was given a do-over, he might have attacked Saturday's seventh-inning grounder differently. But the Yankees second baseman has no intention of changing the way he plays.
